Montana Rimrock Country

Rimrock Backcountry Traverse

This is the trip we built the company around. Montana's rimrock country is vast, dry, and largely unphotographed. Sandstone breaks and coulees carved by ancient rivers, with sightlines that stretch for fifty miles. There are no shuttle buses out here, no boardwalks. Just trail, rim, and sky.

We travel light and camp under some of the darkest skies remaining in the lower 48. Days are spent tracing canyon rims and descending into breaks country; nights are spent around the fire, well away from any town.

Trip Highlights

  • Multi-day traverse along the Missouri River Breaks rimrock
  • Backcountry camping under International Dark Sky-quality skies
  • Guided scrambles into slot coulees and hidden overlooks
  • Optional horseback segment with local outfitters
  • Small groups capped at 8 travelers
