Our Story
Named for the country that started it all
Photo: NPS / Yellowstone National Park
Rimrock Routes started with a single traverse along the Missouri River Breaks, miles of sandstone rim, sky in every direction, and not another traveler in sight. We built the company to keep chasing that feeling, and to share it responsibly with small groups who want more than a scenic overlook.
Today we run itineraries across Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and Montana's rimrock backcountry, from rugged multi-day traverses to gentler lodge-to-lodge journeys. What hasn't changed is the guiding philosophy: expert naturalist leadership, small groups, and a commitment to leaving the country we travel through better than we found it.
Naturalist Guides
Every departure is led by a guide trained in regional geology, wildlife behavior, and backcountry travel, not a seasonal driver reading from a script.
Local Roots
We're based in Lewistown, Montana, in the heart of rimrock country, and partner with ranchers, outfitters, and land stewards across every route we run.
Small by Design
Group sizes stay well under industry norms on every trip, from 8 travelers in the backcountry to 14 on our lodge-to-lodge routes.
